About
The part you cannot see is the part that matters.
Woof & Honest is an independent publication about dog gear. It exists because the pet aisle is good at selling owners a story instead of a product, and because the dog has no say in the transaction.
What decides whether a bed still supports an old dog after two years is the foam inside it, which is often not described on the listing. What decides whether a harness holds on a busy sidewalk is the fit and the hardware, not the photo on the box.
The same logic runs through the whole category. Words like orthopedic, calming, indestructible and crash tested do a lot of selling. Some have proof behind them. Some have none. We try to tell you which is which.
The question is never whether a brand is dishonest. It is what your dog actually receives for the money.
How a ranking gets made
We start from the object, not the brand. Before anything is written, each product gets a row in a table: materials and hardware, durability and warranty, function and fit, safety, value, and where it is made. Each cell needs a source, or it says “not documented”. The order comes from that table, not from the story of the brand. Where a product is made is a supporting point, never the main argument.
Every factual claim traces to a primary source where we can get one: a manufacturer’s own statement, a peer-reviewed study, a veterinary school, a regulator, or a named independent tester. Patterns in owner reviews are reported as patterns, not as test results. Where we are giving an opinion, we say so.
What we do not do
We do not sleep-test twelve beds. Our rankings are based on published specifications, warranties, independent tests and owner reports, and we say so plainly. Rankings are not for sale, and payment never buys the removal or softening of criticism. The full position is in our editorial and affiliate disclosure.
Where we can be wrong
Specifications change. Companies get bought. Manufacturing moves. Research is superseded. We correct openly and note what changed. If you have evidence that something here is wrong, the contact page is open.
And one thing we cannot do from here: assess your dog. Nothing on this site replaces a veterinarian when something is wrong.
